Halloween 2022
After Halloween 2021, we heard one thing loud and clear: nobody wants to trek up multiple flights of stairs, dragging kids in their Halloween gear, just to find an empty candy bowl.

Our neighborhood needed a smarter solution.
Halloween Mapper was both a fun technological challenge and a way to supercharge our community experience.
We solved three key problems:

-
No More Empty Candy Bowls: Real-time updates on treats available.
-
Community Safety: A closed, permission-based app keeps trick-or-treating secure.
-
Easy Coordination: Manage our growing neighborhood without chaos.
Halloween Mapper makes the night fun, safe, and efficient. Trick-or-treating, reinvented! 🎃

And we even made it to the local news!
Halloween Mapper App
-
The app required a personal invitation and identity verification before download. While this extra security step took longer, it let us safely expand our user base knowing the map data would stay protected
-
A group of volunteers helped test our communications and app interface. Their feedback helped us keep our messaging clear and make the app more user-friendly for all participants.

What did we have

Safety
"Out of Candy" Feature
Scale up
Access to the map is restricted to registered users only. We have manually verified each participant.
Participants can indicate they're out of candy and can reverse it if they add more!
Improved communication and a safer experience allowed us to onboard more participants.

Donations
We gathered 2-3 boxes of candy donate to "Danna" Children's Hospital.

Community Relations
Local businesses took part in the celebration and awarded prizes for the spookiest house contest.

"Spooky House" Competition
Six participants took part in the competition and won prizes donated by local neighborhood businesses.
